Helgelandsidyll på Rangsundøya

Remote glamping and floating sauna north of the Arctic Circle in Rødøy

Selsøyvik, Northern Norway

Just north of the Arctic Circle, on the small island of Rangsundøya in the municipality of Rødøy, Helgelandsidyll offers one of Norway’s most remote and atmospheric sauna experiences. Surrounded by more than a thousand islands and skerries in the Helgeland archipelago, this glamping and self-catering retreat is a world away from city life — a place where sea eagles circle overhead, the midnight sun turns the sky gold, and the only sounds are waves and wind.

Accommodation

Guests stay in one of several accommodation types: a fully equipped waterfront apartment sleeping up to seven (available year-round), luxury glamping tents with private terraces, or the dramatic “Ørnedomen” (Eagle Dome) — a cylindrical cabin with panoramic views of the surrounding islands and sea. All guests have access to the property’s wood-fired floating sauna.

The Floating Sauna

The sauna sits on a wooden raft with its own dock and a bathing ladder — designed so that the transition from scorching heat to the cold Nordland sea is as effortless as stepping off a platform. The ritual of wood-fired heat followed by an Arctic Ocean plunge, set against a backdrop of island-dotted sea and open sky, is an experience that is genuinely hard to find elsewhere in the world.

Activities

Rent a kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or motorboat to explore the surrounding waters, fish for cod and coalfish from the rocks, or hike to vantage points with views toward the Svartisen glacier — one of mainland Norway’s largest ice fields, visible on clear days. The nearby Selsøyvik Trading Post, a preserved historic merchant’s station with a café, provides a cultural anchor to the island’s long maritime heritage.

Getting There

Helgelandsidyll is best reached by ferry from Kilboghamn or Jektvik, connecting via the Kystriksveien coastal road — one of Norway’s most scenic drives. Contact the property directly for current pricing and availability.
