Naustdal Sauna

Dry sauna alongside Naustdalsfjorden in Sunnfjord — inner-fjord tranquility

Naustdal, Western Norway

Naustdal Sauna sits on the shores of Naustdalsfjorden in Sunnfjord, western Norway, part of the Vestfjord Sauna network. Positioned at the historic Fjæra waterfront, just ten minutes from Førde, this is a genuine wilderness escape that requires almost no journey from civilisation — yet delivers an inner-fjord setting of real tranquility and natural beauty.

The Sauna

The sauna is a dry format, heated to 80 °C and beyond, designed to produce a gentle, enveloping warmth that encourages deep relaxation. The fjord is immediately outside for cold-water contrast therapy — a bracing plunge into clear, calm fjord water emerging from the surrounding mountains. The combination of heat and cold is the cornerstone of traditional Nordic wellness practice, and the Naustdalsfjorden setting provides it in spectacular style.

The Setting

The fjord landscape here is quintessential western Norway: steep wooded hillsides descend directly to glassy water, the light changes hour by hour through the day, and in winter the glow of the sauna cabin against a dark fjord sky is particularly atmospheric.

Booking

Part of the Vestfjord Sauna network, Naustdal can be booked as a shared session or reserved privately for a group of up to six people.
