HAVN Hjellestad Sauna

Floating sauna at a seaside venue in Hjellestad, south of Bergen

Bergen, Western Norway

HAVN Hjellestad Sauna is a floating sauna moored at the boat harbour of Hjellestad, a scenic coastal village on the southern outskirts of Bergen — just fifteen minutes from Flesland Airport and approximately twenty-five minutes from Bergen city centre. Set alongside HAVN’s restaurant and event venue, the floating sauna offers an intimate waterside wellness experience in a setting of genuine maritime character.

The Sauna

The sauna facility consists of three separate sauna cabins aboard the floating structure, each varying in temperature and atmosphere. Two of the cabins allow water to be added to the rocks for a steam effect (løyly), while one is maintained as a dry sauna. Direct access to the sea is available for cold-water bathing between rounds, and views across the fjord and toward the Bergen archipelago make the experience as scenic as it is restorative.

HAVN as a Venue

HAVN itself is a full-service coastal venue — a restaurant and bar that draws on the local maritime setting. A sauna session followed by a meal or drinks at the restaurant makes for a thoroughly Norwegian afternoon or evening. The venue also functions as an event and party space, and the sauna can be included in private hire arrangements, popular for small celebrations and corporate wellness events.

Practical Information

All sessions must be booked in advance via havnhjellestad.no. Shared bookings require a minimum of two participants, and guests receive an access code by email. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried — characteristic of a place that understands the value of slowing down by the water. Free parking is available on-site.
