Florvåg Sauna occupies a prime waterfront position at Bakarvågneset, a small headland on the island of Askøy, just a short drive west of Bergen. As part of the Vestfjord Sauna network, it offers the same reliable electric-sauna model — always pre-heated to around 80 °C when you arrive — but with a particularly attractive marine setting that makes it one of the most popular locations in the Bergen area.
The Experience
The sauna sits right at the sea’s edge, and direct ocean access is one of its defining features. Guests plunge directly into the sea for the traditional Norwegian varm-kald (hot-cold) experience, with the bracing saltwater providing instant contrast to the heavy heat inside. Fresh sea air and the sight of boats moving through Byfjorden and the surrounding sound add to the atmosphere. The sauna generates a satisfying Norwegian løyly — the steam-rich heat that distinguishes a proper Nordic sauna from a mere hot room.
Booking
Florvåg can be booked as a shared session (up to 6 guests, NOK 199/hour per person) or as a fully private session (NOK 999/hour for the whole sauna). Monthly membership passes are available for regular visitors. Booking is done online via the Vestfjord Sauna website, with access via an SMS code.
Getting There
Florvåg is approximately 20–25 minutes from Bergen city centre by car, or accessible via the express boat service to Askøy — making it one of the most practical coastal sauna options in the Bergen region. On-site shower facilities are included.
