New wood-fired sauna in Høllen, one of six official sites in Kristiansand's 2025 badstue strategy

Kristiansand, Southern Norway

When Kristiansand municipality adopted its formal badstue strategy in 2025, identifying six official sauna sites across the city as part of a broader commitment to outdoor wellbeing infrastructure, Booksauna Høllen was among the six. The venue sits in Høllen, the coastal community that was formerly part of Søgne municipality before the 2020 municipal merger, and it sits directly adjacent to Høllesanden — a wide, sandy beach popular with local families throughout the summer season.

Four Modules by the Beach

Booksauna Høllen is not a single cabin but a four-module facility, a cluster of wood-fired sauna units operated by Booksauna Agder AS. The modular format allows the complex to serve multiple booking slots simultaneously, meaning groups of friends, families, or colleagues can all enjoy the experience at the same time without sharing space. Each module is heated with wood, the traditional Nordic method, and the proximity of Høllesanden means the cold plunge is never more than a short walk across the beach.

The booking process is straightforward and digital: sessions are reserved through the Booksauna website, with a clear calendar system showing available slots. The private-booking model ensures that each group has its own experience without interruption, and the beach-adjacent setting means there is always something to do before or after the sauna — a swim, a walk along the shoreline, or simply sitting on the sand.

Part of Kristiansand’s Sauna Strategy

The 2025 badstue strategy represents Kristiansand’s ambition to make sauna culture a permanent, publicly accessible feature of life along the coast. By designating official sites in different parts of the municipality — from the harbour front to former Søgne — the strategy aims to ensure that residents across a wide geographic area have access to quality sauna facilities within a reasonable distance. Booksauna Høllen fills the southwestern corner of that network, serving the communities of former Søgne and Songdalen as well as visitors to the Høllesanden area.
