Trevarefabrikken

Minimalist ocean sauna on the edge of the Arctic sea in Henningsvaer

Henningsvaer, Northern Norway

Trevarefabrikken is a beautifully restored former woodworking factory turned hotel and cultural hub in the iconic fishing village of Henningsvaer, Lofoten. Its ocean-view sauna sits right on the edge of the Arctic sea, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the legendary Lofoten wall across the Vestfjord.

The 15-square-metre sauna is constructed from cross-laminated timber with a striking Cor-Ten steel window frame, exemplifying minimalist Scandinavian design and environmental consciousness. Both public and private sessions are available. Public sessions accommodate up to eight people for a social, shared experience, while private sessions allow exclusive access for up to twelve guests. Sessions last approximately one hour and twenty minutes, with a cold outdoor shower or a bracing swim in the Arctic ocean to complete the experience.

Henningsvaer itself is one of Lofoten’s most charming villages, and Trevarefabrikken adds to its appeal with a cafe, pizzeria, brunch restaurant, and wine bar all on the premises. Weekly yoga classes and seasonal retreats round out the offering. At 250 NOK per person, this is an accessible and memorable Arctic sauna experience.
