Stu Bunker’n is one of Trondheim’s most unique sauna experiences: a World War II concrete bunker converted into a cozy wood-fired sauna along the scenic Ladestien coastal path at Østmarkneset. The fjord is right outside the door, providing a bracing cold bath between sauna sessions.
Originally built by NTNU LiveStudio architecture students in 2015, the bunker was later restored and reopened through a community effort in 2021. Today it is a trust-based and unmanned facility that you can book for private use throughout the week. The sauna fits up to 10 people and is available from 07:00 to 21:00 daily, with the entire space rentable at what Stu calls the city’s lowest price.
The setting along Ladestien, surrounded by forest and fjord, gives Bunker’n a raw, back-to-basics character that appeals to sauna purists. It is a short cycle or bus ride from the city centre, and the coastal path itself is a popular walking and running route for locals.
